Barrington is a community located about 35 miles to the Northwest of Chicago, Ilinois and offers residents access to the conveniences and cultural aspects of a large metropolitan area in the City of Chicago, but also affords residents the quality of life provided by suburban living. There are seven villages that are commonly known to makeup the greater Barrington area. These are: Barrington, Barrington Hills, North Barrington, South Barrington, Lake Barrington, Deer Park, and Tower Lakes. This land area that comprises Barrington covers about 90 square miles, and estimated population is just over 31,000 people.
Barrington is a large community with a quaint, small town feel. It’s close to Chicago, yet far enough away. The Village of Barrington has higher density living, with a nice downtown area – shops, restaurants, the train station – great for getting out about, walking, and socializing. But at the same time, many people live in Barrington for its open space – and that means parks, larger lots – oftentimes 1 acre plus – you get into areas like Barrington Hills, which has my equestrian properties on 5 acres and more.
Transportation – Getting to Barrington
Many people live in Barrington because there is convenient access to the City of Chicago and O’Hare International Airport. Barrington is located on the Metra Northwest Train Line – which is the commuter train system – and you can be downtown in about 45 minutes or less. You can also easily access the expressway, I90 or 53, and drive downtown or to surrounding suburbs. If you need to be at O’Hare airport, it’s about a 30 minute commute.
Barrington has an excellent school district, which is one of the best in Illinois. The Barrington area schools are served by the Barrington Community School District 220. Barrington 220 is comprised of 9 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and Barrington High School. School district 220 is highly sought after for its academic excellence, and it consistently ranks in the top 5% of school districts in the State.
The Barrington Park District runs so many programs – from youth athletics, swim lessons and summer camps to adult programs and special events. There are some fabulous parks with wide open spaces – Citizens park for example has the lodge, picnic shelters, a tree house, trails, and fields. Langendorf and Ron Beese are two other great parks. Langendorf Park also has a state of the art aquatic center with three pools and water slides. There is plenty of golf, with one local public and five private golf courses. And there’s easy access to even more in surrounding areas of Lake and Cook Counties.
There are homes that range from starter homes to the nicest luxury homes with stunning architecture. There are plenty of moderately priced mid-range homes. You can find a beautiful home in the Village on smaller lot walkable to downtown, or step out of the Village and find homes on one acre plus. Barrington Hills is know for 5 acres plus equestrian properties: Barrington has it all.
